The New Milk Story
Under social pressure to look good, Joe restricted his eating and drinking to a point that led him down a challenging path. For nearly a decade Joe suffered with bulimia. For years he tried to escape the grip of his eating disorder and only when he turned to Veganism did he finally find freedom. Since then he has become more and more conscious about using food as nourishment for both physical and mental health.
Els was training as a solicitor in London when she was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome. At the same time her father was diagnosed with liver disease and told he would need to take medication for the rest of his life. Together they began delving into food as medicine (with Els training at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York and training as a chef in Florence). They reversed their symptons and realised they had adopted a Vegan diet.
Joe and Els became more aware of the environment and their impact on it. After an event where they were selling coffee (with plant-based milks) they had over 100 empty cartons of milk and couldn’t help but feel guilty over the waste they had left over.
This is when they decided to do something about it, this is when New Milk was born.
New Milk currently (watch this space) offer 3 milks: Almond, Coconut and Oat, each developed with the understanding that they all need to taste delicious alone, work well in tea (as little separation as possible) and froth well for coffee.
We have focussed on using as few a number of ingredients as possible.
The milks are delivered in re-useable glass bottles, removing all packaging waste from our system. We have also managed to negotiate with most of our suppliers to deliver our raw ingredients in zero waste packaging too!
